ITS Advisory Committee (ITSAC)

About

The ITS Advisory Committee (ITSAC) has overall responsibility for advice on institutional IT policy and service issues. The committee meets periodically to provide advice to the Provost and Yale’s Chief Information Officer on Yale’s information technology policies, strategies, priorities, and services.

Objectives

ITSAC serves as the foremost faculty-led committee with relationship to ITS. The committee serves to provide feedback to ITS on existing and future services, including both strategic initiatives and the annual project portfolio.

ITSAC consists of a team of faculty and staff to:

  • Provide independent thinking and feedback.

  • Serve as a sounding board for new initiatives.

The membership also provides a functional breadth of knowledge around the following:

  • Faculty research needs

  • Teaching and learning needs and directions

  • Specific disciplinary knowledge

Areas of focus for ITSAC include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategic technology directions

  • The strategic role of technology in the teaching and learning mission of the University

  • The critical role of technology in support of research and scholarship

  • Particular issues on which the Provost, VP for Finance and Business Operations, orthe University CIO seeks advise

Responsibilities

ITSAC receives regular updates from the University CIO on various existing and future technology needs, ideas, and issues facing the university community. These thoughts and comments are collected and background material is provided to the committee prior to each meeting. ITSAC also identifies areas where ITS attention may be warranted. Finally, ITSAC reviews a final draft of the annual technology portfolio recommendation and endorses the portfolio before it is presented to the IT Executive committee for review and allocation approval.

The role of the Chair:

  • Overall communication to the committee members

  • Prioritization and planning monthly and annual agenda topics

  • Calling and leading meetings as necessary.

Composition

The committee membership should be diverse and represent the larger university faculty and administrative community.

ITSAC members represent:

  • Diversity of disciplinary backgrounds including at least one member from Arts & Humanities, Physical Sciences and Engineering, Social Sciences, the Professional Schools

  • Varied perspectives

  • Willingness to engage
