'Search features' Link: 'Autocomplete' Tab

The Autocomplete tab allows for:

 

Autocomplete offers query options to your users as they enter their search queries in your search box.

Note that newly enabled or added autocompletions may take several hours to appear.

 

ENABLING/DISABLING AUTOCOMPLETE

  • From the Autocomplete tab, set the Enable autocomplete toggle to ON or OFF.

 

SETTING THE MATCH MODE FOR AUTOCOMPLETE

The autocomplete match mode defines how multiple-word search queries will be matched to autocomplete terms.  Prefix mode displays only autocompletions that match the opening words of the user’s query.  Ordered mode displays autocompletions when the search query matches all the words in the order they appear in the autocompletion.  Any mode displays autocompletions regardless of the order of the words in the search query.

  • From the Autocomplete tab, click the Advanced link to expand the menu.
  • Select the radio button for the autocompletion display Match mode.

 

CUSTOM INCLUDED TERMS

Custom included terms are always shown when the user types a matching query.

  • Adding included terms
    • From the Autocomplete tab, click the included tab below Custom Autocompletions.
    • Click the Add button to display the Add suggestion dialog
    • (Required) The Autocomplete suggestion term field defines the term that will be suggested to the user.
    • The Optional suggestion score field allows you to score the suggestion from 1 to 10,000.
    • Click OK to save the autocomplete term.
  • Deleting included terms
    • From the Autocomplete tab, click the included tab below Custom Autocompletions.
    • Select the checkboxes for the terms to be deleted and click the Delete button.
    • In the Delete records dialog, click OK.
  • Uploading/downloading XML files
    • From the Autocomplete tab, click the included tab below Custom Autocompletions.
    • Click the link to expand the Upload/download XML menu.
    • Click the Upload or Download (if available) button to upload or download an XML file.

 

 

CUSTOM EXCLUDED TERMS

Regardless of the query typed by the user, custom excluded terms are never shown.

  • Adding excluded terms
    • From the Autocomplete tab, click the excluded tab below Custom Autocompletions.
    • Click the Add button to display the Add suggestion dialog
    • (Required) The Autocomplete suggestion term field defines the term that will not be suggested to the user.
    • Click OK to save the autocomplete term.
  • Deleting excluded terms
    • From the Autocomplete tab, click the excluded tab below Custom Autocompletions.
    • Select the checkboxes for the terms to be deleted and click the Delete button.
    • In the Delete records dialog, click OK.
  • Uploading/downloading XML files
    • From the Autocomplete tab, click the excluded tab below Custom Autocompletions.
    • Click the link to expand the Upload/download XML menu.
    • Click the Upload or Download (if available) button to upload or download an XML file.

 

 

CUSTOM EXCLUDED PATTERNS

Excluded patterns let you exclude a collection of autocompletions with regular expression.  Regardless of the query typed by the user, terms matching the custom excluded patterns are never shown.

  • Adding excluded patterns
    • From the Autocomplete tab, click the excluded patterns tab below Custom Autocompletions.
    • Click the Add button to display the Add suggestion dialog
    • (Required) The Autocomplete suggestion term field defines the term that will not be suggested to the user.
    • Click OK to save the autocomplete term.
  • Deleting excluded patterns
    • From the Autocomplete tab, click the excluded patterns tab below Custom Autocompletions.
    • Select the checkboxes for the terms to be deleted and click the Delete button.
    • In the Delete records dialog, click OK.
  • Uploading/downloading XML files
    • From the Autocomplete tab, click the excluded tab below Custom Autocompletions.
    • Click the link to expand the Upload/download XML menu.

CUSTOM AUTOCOMPLETE PROMOTIONS

Custom autocomplete promotions are shown with information about the promotion and go directly to the specified URL when clicked.

  • Adding autocomplete promotions
    • From the Autocomplete tab, click the promotions tab below Custom Autocompletions.
    • Click the Add button to display the Add promotion dialog
    • (Required) The first field accepts Promotion triggering queries separated by commas.
      • If the Regular expression checkbox is selected, the Promotion triggering queries will be treated as a regular expression.
    • (Required) The Promotion title field defines the title of the promotion that will display in search results.
    • (Required) The third field, containing the sample URL http://www.example.com/promotion, is the URL of the page being promoted.
    • The Promotion description field provides a description or lead-in for the promotion.
    • The Thumbnail Image URL field accepts the URL for an image that will display as a thumbnail with the promotion.
    • (Required) Ensure the Enable toggle is set to ON.
    • In the Promotion start date field, a date and time can be selected for the promotion to begin.
    • In the Promotion end date field, a date and time can be selected for the promotion to end.
    • Click the OK button to save the promotion
  • Deleting autocomplete promotions
    • From the Autocomplete tab, click the promotions tab below Custom Autocompletions.
    • Select the checkboxes for the terms to be deleted and click the Delete button.
    • In the Delete records dialog, click OK.
  • Uploading/downloading XML files
    • From the Autocomplete tab, click the promotions tab below Custom Autocompletions.
    • Click the link to expand the Upload/download XML menu.
    • Click the Upload or Download (if available) button to upload or download an XML file
