  • Spinup self-service AWS resource provisioning
  • departmental subaccounts associated with our main AWS account
  • ITS provided shared services such as backup and storage
  • ITS central billing for charges from AWS

Features

Using an ITS-provided AWS account provides:

  • Redundant high-speed AWS Direct Connect network connections from Yale to AWS.
  • Private subnets routable from campus and managed as an extension of the ITS data center.
  • Integration with the Yale data center load balancers and firewalls.
  • Active Directory and CAS integration.
  • Optional backup and DR for AWS cloud servers.
  • Yale approved and configured operating system images.
  • Support for 2-lock and 3-lock data.

Who can use it?

  • Faculty, staff, or departments needing to setup AWS servers can use ITS self-service Spinup portal to quickly deploy AWS resources.
  • IT professionals from Yale departments, schools, labs, or other organizations can work with ITS to deploy a dedicated AWS sub-account to house that organization’s AWS resources.  The AWS resources deployed in this sub-account are managed by IT professionals in the department, school or lab.

How much does it cost?

AWS charges are based on resource size and usage.

  • All EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) virtual servers and EBS (Elastic Block Store) storage charges are estimated based on typical workload, but prices may vary based on usage.
  • Rates and charges are estimated using the AWS calculator - on demand pricing. Note that the calculator price does not include AWS’ 10% additional support charge.
  • AWS rates include charges for EC2, storage, snapshots and AWS support.
  • Sizes are not limited to the standard configurations above.  Use the AWS calculator to estimate non-standard sizes or email aws-services@yale.edu
  • Storage rate is computed for primary 100GB default @ $0.10 cents per GB per month (or $10/100GB/month).
  • Assumes nightly snapshots for 8 days with total changes at less than 50% allocated storage.
