Secure USB

The ITS Secure USB Service is designed to provide a highly secure environment for the mobile storage and use of sensitive data. The IronKey Enterprise D250 flash drive is availble for users who need to transport sensitive data. The drive is encrypted, physically hardened, and centrally managed. 

Features

  • Centralized administration (for redeploying, locking/disabling, resetting passwords, and permanently erasing devices)
  • Rugged construction (waterproof, crushproof, tamper-resistant)
  • Ability to erase and disable the device upon loss or theft
  • Ability to provide geolocation data in the event of loss or theft.
  • Ability to perform a password protected, encrypted backup of the contents of the Ironkey to a local share on users system or a network share (Windows only)
  • Identity Manager for secure storage of multiple passwords (Windows only)

Who can use it?

Mobile users of sensitive (Lock-2 or Lock-3) data, and those individuals who provide support to them will be candidates to receive an Ironkey.

How much does it cost?

There is no charge to the Yale community for the 16GB and 32GB devices, larger devices can be ordered from Sciquest (see the How do I get it section below).

How do I get it?

Request a device by sending an email to helpdesk@yale.edu

Please include the following information in the request:

  • The device owners NetID
  • The device owners Yale Email address 
  • USB devices can be picked up from one of the ITS Walk-in Help Centers.  Secure USB keys are not linked to a person until activation.

Larger devices can be purchased from Sciquest and include:

  • 64GB USB 3 device Sciquest Item Number 18474141
  • 128GB USB 3.0 device Sciquest Item Number:  18474159
  • 2TB External Hard Drive (not a USB key) SciQuest Item Number: 31877753
