Antivirus Service

Antivirus software is designed to protect your computer against malicious software. Malicious software, or "malware" includes: viruses, trojans, key loggers, hijackers, dialers, and other code that vandalizes or steals your computer contents. Antivirus software automatically scans your computer to detect and remove viruses, spyware, and security risks. It also cleans downloaded files or email attachments and attempts to repair the effects of any viruses that were found. It delivers continuous protection via fast, unobtrusive scanning and automatic virus definition updates. 

Yale University Policy requires the use of an approved antivirus solution on all University-owned computers as well as computers used in the HIPAA covered component areas.

Who can use it?

Members of the Yale community with an active and valid Yale NetID are eligible to use this service.

How much does it cost?

This service is available at no charge to the Yale community.

How do I get it?

For personally-owned computers only, Trend Micro antivirus is available from the ITS Software Library.

Where can I get help?

Contact the ITS Help Desk, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at 203-432-9000 or email helpdesk@yale.edu. You may also visit one of the Walk-In Computer Support Centers or contact your local IT support provider.

How do I know if I have BigFix Endpoint Protection?

BigFix Endpoint Protection software, which will be replaced in Q4 2017, has different names on Mac and Windows devices. Use the guidance below to determine which version your device is running.

big fix iconWindows: Check for a BigFix icon in your system tray (the bar at the bottom of your screen to the left of the date and time) 
Mac:  Check for a Trend Micro icon in your Menu Bar, usually at the top of your screen.
(Double clicking the icon will show the software as Trend Micro Security Product version 2.0.XXXX.)
