Desktop Backup

The ITS backup service allows data to be backed up automatically, continuously, and silently with no user effort or intervention required. Once the service is running you will be able to restore any version of a file from your desktop computer.

Functions of the ITS backup service include:

  • Backup - Continuous backup of your data.
  • Recovery - The ability to recover previous versions of files, or files that have been deleted.

Who can use it?

Faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows who are located in areas that are accessible to an internet connection can use this service.

This service allows four computers per account to be backed up with the service.  Additional computers will not be backed up.

Please note: All faculty and staff associated with a Professional School are advised to check with their Lead Administrators about their current Desktop Backup solution. If there is already a desktop backup service in place, please use their service and do not enroll in the ITS Desktop Backup (CrashPlan) service.

The ITS backup service is not available to students. 

How much does it cost?

This service is free to all faculty and staff of the University.  The service is not available for students.

How do I get it?

This service is available through the software library, http://www.yale.edu/software. All staff and faculty are enrolled automatically.

Where can I get help?

The latest backup client with configuration can be downloaded from the ITS Software Library.
