Wired Infrastructure Services

Telecom engineering manages the complex backbone of Yale's network connectivity for data and voice transmission across and beyond Yale's campus.

Specific services include:

  • Fiber connectivity between buildings
  • Copper and Fiber services within building
  • Data and Voice renovations for office spaces
  • Campus Distributed Antenna Service for cell phone coverage

Who can use it?

Wired Infrastructure Services is an internal service provider that is offered to all Yale faculty and staff.

How much does it cost?

Consultation and Budget Estimates

Once a request for service is received, a Telecom Engineer will provide consultation and budget estimates with a full proposal at no cost to the requester. All budget estimates will include future labor cost.

Approval

All requesting parties are asked to review the functional scope and estimate for the project within the delivered proposal. If this document meets the intended vision of the project, your approval is sought via email. If you would like further detail added to the scope, please contact us to add these revisions to the scope. Once approval is received, Telecom Engineering will work with you on the next steps.

Funding

The requesting parties will fund any future project with a PTAEO or with an account number to be provided in order to proceed.

How do I get it?

Structured Cabling 

Structured cabling is the design and installation of a cabling systems that will support multiple hardware systems and be suitable for today needs and those of the future.

The "Yale University Cabling Standards" should be used for all new and renovation projects.

Telecom  Equipment Room Standards

This document identifies items that must be considered and resolved for an area to be considered as a potential telecommunication room or for an upgrade of an existing telecommunication room. Each building or location will have designated telecommunications rooms where all network cabling for a defined area will be terminated.

The "Yale University Telecom Equipment Room Standards" should be used for all new and renovation projects.
