Wifi

Members of the Covered Components must use the YaleSecure or Yale Wireless network connected to Yale VPN. Please see policies and procedures related to HIPAA Security. University faculty, students, and staff should only use YaleSecure.

YaleSecure = is the recommended, encrypted wifi network for anyone with a Yale NetID. To use YaleSecure, enter your NetID and password when prompted. If you have trouble try the YaleSecure Connection Assistant.

YaleGuest = The YaleGuest network allows access to a segregated portion of the Yale University wireless network. The Yale University guest wireless network is a limited wireless data network provided for guests of the University only. No username or password is required. The YaleGuest network is insecure (open and unencrypted).

The YaleGuest network must NOT be used by members of the University's Covered Components (or any unit possessing confidential or regulated data), designated as such for purposes of complying with the privacy provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.

Eduroam = Individuals from Yale traveling to other participating instituition may use the eduroam network by authenticating with their Yale credentials. The logon format is username@home university and the example for Yale would be "netid@yale.edu".

Yale wireless = Provides wireless internet access for guests and visitors and also provides encrypted access for those who are a part of the Yale campus. Yale Wireless is an alternative, non-encrypted network for anyone with a NetID. Yale Wireless counts as "on the Yale network". To use Yale wireless, register your computer or device on the network.

Who can use it?

YaleGuest = Visitors to Yale Campus

YaleSecure = Anyone with a Yale netid

Eduroam = Yale people traveling to other participating instituition can use the eduroam network by authenticating with their Yale credentials. The logon format is "username@home"university and the example for Yale would be netid@yale.edu.

Yalewireless = Anyone on the Yale campus with a registered device

How much does it cost?

Wifi network is free.

How do I get it?

The WIFI signal is broadcast with the SSID “Yalewireless”, “YaleGuest”, “YaleSecure”, and “Eduroam”.
