Walk In Computer Support Centers

Walk-in Computer Support Centers provide:

Timely world-class customer service in to all members of the Yale community for any of their computing support needs.  Support for personal or Yale owned machines.  Empathetic and well trained IT Professionals who are ready and able to resolve ANY computer related issues.  Assistance to other ITS support personnel to help them support their assigned clients in person or over the phone.  Guidance ensuring members of the Yale community follow standard computing best practices wherever possible and will guide clients to adhere to Yale policies and standards when applicable.

Features

Walk-In Computer Support centers provide the following services:

  • Software repair
  • Hardware repair - certified warranty service providers for Dell, Lenovo, and Apple hardware
  • Virus and malware remediation and removal
  • Operating system reload
  • Data recovery
  • Full support of Yale Standard Managed Workstations (faculty and staff)
  • Software and peripheral installation
  • Secure disposal of Yale-owned hardware and shredding of optical media (CD, DVD)
  • Kiosk computers for self service
  • Assistance with online hardware ordering
  • Assistance with NetID activations and password changes – including verification of client identities in situations where credentials have been compromised
  • Iron Key distribution, provisioning and account management
  • Support of personally-owned hardware
  • Support for fringe constituencies such as Specialized Students, Residents, Visiting or Volunteer Faculty, and other members of the community with non-standard needs
  • Tablet and other mobile device support, including personally-owned devices
  • Assistance navigating other ITS services

Who can use it?

All Members of the Yale community, or anyone who has a Yale NetID

How much does it cost?

There is currently no charge for labor, however, clients will pay for parts required to fix hardware not covered under warranty.  We are certified to provide warranty service on Dell, Lenovo, and Apple hardware.  If we are not certified to complete warranty repair, or if we believe it will be more efficient to effect a repair, we may assist clients in shipping hardware to OEM warranty centers for repair.

How do I get it?

Members of the Yale community can walk in for help with computing needs in any of the Walk-in Computer Support locations. Support includes software and hardware support for personal computers and Yale-owned computers. ITS does not charge any money for labor at our centers. However you may need to purchase replacement or upgrade parts to allow us to complete repairs. You will be consulted before any parts are ordered, and will always have the option to cancel the repair should you not wish to incur any cost.

No appointment is necessary to drop off a device for service, but please check in with Security at the 25SP main entry front desk. The turn-around time for most work is five business days; however, complex requests and possible heavy technical work volume may require additional time.

No appointment is necessary to drop off a device for service. The turn-around time for most work is five business days; however, complex requests and possible heavy technical work volume may require additional time.
