Mailing Lists

A listserv is an electronic mailing list which allows one message to be distributed automatically to a predetermined group of people. Below are the options available offered by Yale ITS to facilitate communication and collaboration among Yale affiliates.

YaleConnect Distribution Groups

You can use Windows Outlook to create, add or to remove members of a YaleConnect distribution group, using Outlook Web App (OWA) gives you the most flexibility; as an owner of a YaleConnect distribution group, you can add or remove other owners as well as members of the group. Learn more

EliLists

EliLists are Google Groups for EliApps, Yale's instance of Google's apps for education. Messages sent to an EliList generate an email as well as an archive of messages. Documents shared with an EliList will automatically be shared with new members of an EliList when they are added to the list and removed when they leave the list. Anyone with an EliApps account can request and manage an EliList. Members of an EliList can include both Yale and non-Yale email addresses. Members without EliApps accounts can send messages to and receive messages from the list but cannot view the list's archives, change settings, add or remove members, approve messages, or otherwise administer EliLists. Access EliLists

Mailman

Mailman is web-based software for managing group email lists. Mailman supports public or private archives, provides the ability for individuals to subscribe or unsubscribe from a list, and offers list owners a robust set of customizable features. Access mailman

Self-Service Messaging

Self-Service Messaging (aka ‘Message III’) is for departments or schools to send targeted email messages to lists that are automatically updated from Banner or Oracle. Learn more

Message Lite

Message Lite is a self-service email tool that provides access to the messaging system groups by NetID. This is especially valuable as it connects people with lists that can auto-update using SQL query. Learn more

Email Subscription Service

The Email Subscription Service allows people to subscribe and unsubscribe from any list that is available. People can also be auto-subscribed to some groups based on specific criteria with the option to unsubscribe. Learn more
