Box at Yale

Box at Yale is a cloud-based file sharing and storage workspace that enables people to collaborate and share information. Box at Yale makes it easy to upload content, organize files, share links to files, and manage file and folder permissions in order to collaborate with other Box users. Box can be accessed through a mobile device or your computer. With Box, you can collaborate anytime, anywhere, from any device.

Anyone at Yale who plans to store 3-Lock Data in Box must use Secure Box, a separate instance of Box at Yale that has additional security features to help protect sensitive data.

Features

  • 50 GB of space per user. You can upload files up to 15 GB in size.
  • It's easy to upload content, organize documents, share items, and permissions on shared items.
  • Collaborate on documents with colleagues seamlessly anytime, anywhere from any device.
  • Uploaded files are private and not shared unless you share them.
  • Maintains version history of your files.
  • Deleted files are kept in the Trash folder for 30 days.
  • Box Sync app for Windows and macOS allows you to synchronize the data in your Box account with a "Box Sync" folder on your home directory on your computer.
  • Free plug-ins, utilities, and mobile apps are available.
  • Uses your Yale NetID and password to log in, the same way you do with many other applications and services at Yale.

Who can use it?

Members of the Yale community with an active Yale NetID and a valid Yale email address are eligible to use this service.

  • Upon graduation, students can be converted to personal Box.com accounts with the benefit of maintaining the 50 GB quota.

Members of the Yale community with an active and valid NetID and Yale email address can access Box at Yale at http://box.yale.edu by logging in using their NetID; The service is available to you anytime, anywhere, and you can even use the approved apps to access the service.

If you handle 3-Lock Data, your Box at Yale account must be in our Secure Box instance.

How can I tell if my Box at Yale account is in Secure Box or "regular" Box?

After logging in at http://box.yale.edu, check the URL in your web browser's address bar. If it starts with https://yale.app.box.com, you are in regular Box; if it starts with https://yalesecure.app.box.com, you are in Secure Box.
