Computer security is about more than just protecting your hardware and online activities — you also need to protect your data. Accidental loss, mechanical breakdown, or theft can result in the loss of many hours of work.

Set up automatic backups of data on your desktop computer or laptop.
Always use a secure data storage facility (such as the ITS backup service) for important or confidential Yale documents.
Periodically check to confirm that your data back-up is running as it should, and that you can retrieve the back-up material without a problem.
ITS network backup services
The ITS backup service gives you the ability to automatically or manually backup critical files and directories to the backup system.
Yale NetID password must be changed at least once per calendar year to a different password. Each year's password must be unique -- don't recycle previous year's passwords. Read the strong password guide.
