For Android and iOS (iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch) users, ITS recommends using the Gmail app which does not require any special setup.
IMAP is preferable only if you use multiple emails accounts, and one is a non-Google email service.
Prerequisite: Setup an EliApps password and Enable IMAP access from EliApps
If you are only accessing EliApps via the web client and Gmail app, you do not need to follow the IMAP instructions. To configure a stand-alone mail client on your laptop or mobile device, please follow the three steps below. This must be done once per EliApps account, and you will utilize the same password for any standalone client or mobile device.
When downloading a large number of messages, such as when you are first setting up a device to access your EliApps mail, you may receive an error similar to 'Account Exceeded Bandwidth Limits,' or your device may be unable to access new mail for a period of time, usually up to 1 day. This is a result of Google's policy limiting the amount of mail data that you may transfer in a given time period.
During this time, you will still be able to access your EliApps mail using a web browser at http://mail.bulldogs.yale.edu. For more information on this policy, see Google's documentation on account bandwidth limits.
Please refer to the help file in your particular mail program if you need assistance with how to add an IMAP account to it. The settings you will need to configure for IMAP to work are as follows:
Incoming Server Settings:
For 'Username,' enter your Yale email address in the format: email@example.com
For 'IMAP server,' enter: imap.gmail.com
For 'Port,' enter: 993
For 'Security type select SSL
Outgoing Server Settings:
For 'SMTP3 server' enter: smtp.gmail.com
For 'Port,' enter: 465
For 'Security type,' select SSL
