Campus Ethernet: Using a wired ethernet connection to connect to the Yale network
This article assumes that you have already registered your computer, and that you have not been blocked from the network. You can find instructions on how to register your computer here. First, plug your computer into the wall Ethernet port using an Ethernet cord. Follow the instructions for your operating system below, after being sure that your device has been properly registered.
1.Click the Start Orb/Button
3.Click the Network and Sharing Center button link
4.Click the Manage network connections link
5.Right-click on Local Area Connection and select Properties. Give Windows permission to continue.
6.Click once on Internet Protocol Version 4 to select it. Then click the Properties button.
7.Make sure that IP and DNS server address are set to be obtained automatically.
Right-click the Start and select Network Connections
Click Change Adapter Options
Right-click Ethernet and select Properties
Click once on Internet Protocol Version 4 to select it. Then click the Properties button.

1. Click the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
2. Select Network.
3. Select the Built-in Ethernet option under Show.
4.Click on the TCP/IP tab and select Using DHCP.
6.Highlight the Ethernet interface and click to cog wheel at the bottom of the Network Preferences pane
7.Select Set Service Order
8.Drag the Ethernet to the top
If you plug in an Ethernet cable, a Wifi network is connected and not functioning and the Service Order is not set properly your Mac won't connect to the network.
If you are still experiencing trouble after verifying that your Mac is set for DHCP on the Ethernet interface and that the service order is properly configured, follow the above instructions for reaching out to the Help Desk for assistance.
