Printing to a Uniprint Printer from a Personal Computer
Uniprint is the system of connected printers all over campus. Uniprint printers are available in every college, public clusters (Bass, CT Hall, Dunham) and select other locations.
You can print to the Uniprint printers from a cluster computer or from your own personal computer. The "YalePrint" Drivers below creates one virtual printer. When you print to that virtual printer, you can release the document at almost any Uniprint printer on campus. You won't be charged until the document is released.
Windows PCs
To print from a computer running Windows, visit YPPS' UniPrint page and install the software for 'Student Printing & Central Print Queues' on your computer.
Mac OS X (10.5 - 10.7)
To print from a computer running Mac OS X Leopard, Snow Leopard, or Lion, visit YPPS' UniPrint page and install the software for 'Student Printing & Central Print Queues' on your computer.
Linux
Though the print anywhere software is not available for Linux, you can still print to specific Uniprint printers.
Given the variety of distributions of Linux, the instructions provided are necessarily non-specific. For assistance, please contact your local support provider.
- Navigate to your computer's Add Printer wizard.
- From the wizard, choose the option to add an LPD printer (this may be under a section like 'Network').
- When asked for the device URI, enter:
- lpd://[your_netid]@[server].ris.yale.edu/[queue]
- For [server] and [queue] use the values from the list of Uniprint printers
- Note:Some distributions may automatically remove the netid@ portion of the URI. This is usually not an issue.
- If prompted, enable Duplexer to enable two-sided printing.
- If prompted for a driver, it is just a Generic PostScript Printer.
